The Risk team’s mandate is to accelerate Coinbase’s mission of building an open financial system by keeping the platform safe from fraud and enabling delightful experiences for our customers. Accomplishing this afford us the opportunity to build the world’s best place to access, own, and use cryptocurrency. We will accelerate our business with industry leading technology, tools and product experiences to manage risk, maximize revenue and enable innovation.

Our strategy to achieve this is:

  • Invest in long term: Invest in risk management systems over quick fixes, so that we can leverage ML as much as possible, to empower good customers to invest more, and prevent fraudsters from transacting.
  • Build the best technologies: We focus on building core technologies in-house (e.g. ML models, rules engines, credit risk), and only use vendors outside core competencies (e.g. Emailage, Equifax, Ethoca). We also empower analyst by improving their tools and workflows.
  • Take control of our destiny: We measure and communicate our impact so stakeholders understand the value of our team, and aim to build a full-stack team so we’re building a more consistent product experiences across different platforms.

A little more about the team: we’re a cross-functional product team with experts in fraud analytics, machine learning, backend, frontend, product and design. Our tech stack is Ruby on Rails and MongoDB. We leverage machine learning, data analysis, and our internal tools to stay ahead of fraudsters. We value positive energy, continuous learning, and clear communication and are committed to building an inclusive environment for people from every background.

About our stack: over 90% of our codebase is written in Swift, we have a continuous integration pipeline, and desktop build machines to maximize our team’s productivity.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Work with product managers to understand product strategy, design technical specifications that meet product requirements as well as as best system design in mind.
  • Work closely with data analytics to understand business impact and setup split tests to measure and quantify the impact of each product feature.
  • Work closely with designers to design and implement high quality user interfaces and apps.
  • Design, build, maintain systems that help us accelerate our development velocity.
  • Work closely with other engineers on integration and testing, add positive energy to the team, and maintain a high bar on engineering quality and productivity.

What we look for in you:

  • Ownership mindset and passionate about software engineering, ability to learn new things quickly as needed.
  • Industry experience in architecting and developing scalable, quality iOS systems.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team including product, design, data analytics and ML platform.
  • At least 3 years of experience developing native mobile applications.
  • Familiar with the mobile product and design life cycles.
  • Can write high-quality code with unit and automated tests.
  • Experience shipping mobile apps to a large user base.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience working on risk or anti-fraud teams.
  • Understanding of how payment system and how financial fraud works.
  • Know how to, or want to develop on Android, React, or Ruby on Rails.
